Strong In Jesus' Grace

Sermon By: Dick Webster

II Timothy Chapter 2

1 Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. 3 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. 4 No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.

1.Be Strong in the Grace that is Christ Jesus. Today we think that we need courage and physically. Strong in so many way. It's a mentality in our life today. Paul teaches that we need to be strong in Grace of Christ. In that we find our strength. How strong are we today. Could we ask the Lord to send us out, no matter where it is? To the deepest jungles, areas where you will be killed for being a Christian?

2.The things you have learned you must commit to faithful men. Teaching from generations to generations. Spread the seed. The biggest thing in your life is your testimony, but the worst testimony can be your life. Not everyone is going to follow your example, but that does not relieve your duty to serve. You must find faithful men, and to them spread the teaching of Christ. The faithful can pass on the word, even when the unfaithful will scuff it out of their minds.

3.If you are a faithful man of God you are eager to pass the Word off to someone else. You are not passing on your knowledge to look smart, but to teach. Many people know the characters of the bible, but they don't know the author. You can memorize the entire bible, but if you don't know Jesus it means nothing. The teaching is NOT just the job of the preacher, but everyone! The way we do things today is completely different to how it was said in the bible. Pastors were shepherds that herded and made sure everyone was on the same track of learning. Now we have pastors that preach then hide in offices leaving things such as sunday school to someone else. We have boards where the elders sit and never mend to the spiritual needs some people have.

Endure Hardness. You will see hardness. Things will NOT be easy. Soldiers do not run and leave your friends. One soldier does not step up without the other. Everyone works as a team. Christians should be doing the same thing. We are the unit, and the general is Jesus Christ. The head of the army. If you endure the hardships, the temptations, the troubles, the torment; you will come out a stronger person. As we get closer and closer to the end times, we will be tormented. But if you compare our time on earth, it's nothing even close to a grain of sand compared to eternity.

4.Any man that is going to be a soldier, you don't get side tracked on the battle field. You have one focus with your company to accomplish your goal that you are assigned. No man that wars against the sins of this world, will not get side tracked with the things of this world. Warriors do not sit down, we get up and fight. Distractions will kill you. They will side track you, and make you luke warm. As a Christian, you have been chosen by God to fight the war. Are you in or on the bench? Those on the bench, will face judgement from God.

When you teach, it doesn't have to be some deep theological thing. In most cases, just preaching the Love of Christ is important. We must always have our testimonies at hand.
